Robert Szwajkos

Democratic Candidate for Borough Council, Ward 2

A lawyer by profession and a community activist by avocation, I have lived in Newtown for seventeen years. I serve as Board Chair for the non-profit Bucks County Credit Counseling Center. In addition, I serve as counsel to non-profits such as FACT [an HIV/AIDS charity based in New Hope] and New Hope Celebrates Pride Festival. I am also former Chair of Team Philadelphia, the umbrella organization for Philadelphia region 11 adult amateur sports organizations, with more than 1,200 members. I am a founding member of Newtown Borough’s Human Relations Commission. My backyard model railroad has been featured on several Newtown house tours.

A leader of for-profit and non-profit organizations for nearly 50 years, my first goal as a member of Newtown Borough Council will be to listen to fellow citizens and business owners to identify the important issues and needs facing our community. These include the need for safe and passable sidewalks and streets, as well as the need for safe bike paths and bike parking areas. Working to solve longstanding traffic and parking issues is also a high priority for me, as is continuing ongoing efforts to save the Borough’s ash trees. Throughout all of its work, I believe, Council must be sensitive to the changing demographics of the Borough, and must realize that our beautiful historic town has much to gain from supporting thoughtful business development.

The main focus of my professional life has been to identify and develop strategies for solving complex financial problems based on a deep understanding of my clients’ needs. Throughout my career my work has been conducted with the highest degrees of integrity and professional competence. This experience prepares me well to serve on Newtown’s Borough Council.
